Gary Commeford

M.A Criminology;
Gary Commeford is the National Director for Scott &
Associates Inc, a Human Resources Consulting firm
which provides solutions to Canadian based companies
with a concentration in Labour Management Relations,
Absence & Attendance Management, Business Continuity
Planning and Conflict Management.
Gary has an extensive history with both the public
and private sectors, primarily in correctional
services and policing environments. His leadership
positions include being the Assistant Deputy
Minister, Adult Institutions for the Ontario
Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional
Services, in addition to being the Assistant Deputy
Minister, Tourism Operations for the Ministry of
Tourism and Recreation and acted as the General
Manager for the Ontario Place Corporation. Gary has
also held other progressive leadership positions as
Provincial Director, Regional Director, District
Administrator, and Superintendent of Provincial
Correctional Facilities. Gary started his career as
a Social Worker in a Correctional Facility.
Gary has developed strong working relationships with
various governmental jurisdictions, was successful
in leading public/private project initiatives and
was instrumental in introducing interest based
problem solving initiatives to a militant unionized
environment. In his well over 30 year career in the
Correctional and Policing Sector, Gary was
responsible for overseeing the largest and only
privately operated prison in Canada, was
responsible for leading and directing the largest
Correctional Facility Jurisdiction in Canada, led
the development and establishment of the
Correctional Investigation and Security Unit and by
using a collaborative approach led various Labour
Management initiatives for managing issues such as
SARS, Occupational Health and Safety, Smoke Free
Correctional Facility Environments etc.
Gary’s ability to work effectively in complex and
demanding environments, having excellent negotiation
and mediation skills and the ability to develop
sound strategic solutions to workplace problems are
major assets to both the Labour Relations Practice
and the Workplace Investigations and Conflict
Resolution Unit for Scott & Associates Inc.
Gary has a Masters Degree in Criminology and a
Bachelor of Arts Degree. He also is a graduate from
the Ivy Executive Program, University of Western
Ontario and the Leadership Development Program from
the Niagara Institute, in addition to other various
leadership and professional development programs.
